A Love Challenge

I will start this post by saying that I love my husband with all my heart! But, there are times that I love him more than I can stand! If you know what I mean! Well, I picked up this book. I picked it up because we were constantly...okay, okay. I was constantly picking at him and we would argue. So, I picked up this little Gem called the Love Dare 365 Day by Day Devo book for couples to share in together. We go in phases of doing things like this, but I find it comforting to get back to why we do what we do.

Why is that? Is it for our own selfish wants and desires? Or is it so we can be more like Christ every day? I want it to be the later, but I know that I fall short in this area wanting to have control and things done MY way. I find encouragement in scripture that I can't get from anywhere else.

Day 2 in this book had us read 1 Corinthians 13,then reading it again with replacing "love" or "it" with our own names. It became very apparent that I am not even close to how this scripture describes love. Today, I decided to read it again and have a heart check in the "love" department. Here is what I wrote in my prayer journal today:

Love is patient - I want to be
Love is kind - I try to be
Love does not envy - I fail here
Love does not boast - I can improve here
Love is not proud - My biggest downfall
Love is not rude - I try not to be, but sometime it feels justified
Love is not self-seeking - Lord, you know where my treasure is stored - keep me on track
Love is not easily angered - Lord, help me!!!
Love keeps no record of wrong - But, how do you measure your progress?!!!
Love does not delight in evil - TV shows?!
Love always protects - Teach me how to do this!
Love always trusts - I lean on my own understanding too much
Love always hopes - Put my hope in heaven, Lord, not on this earth
Love always perserveres - Never Quit
Love never fails - God is love

I challenge you to see what comes to mind when you put your name in 1 Corinthians, specifically verses 4-8! Blessings in your marriage and may God bring you closer together through HIM!
